ode to zee sun.

fabulous is:

Kristin Olaf´s documentary 'how do you like Iceland?' .... what grand timing to watch this well crafted peice ! 21 days on the island is sufficient time to form the expected stereotypical foreigner opinions; alot of which reassuringly affirmed by 9 other alien perceptions.

what stands out most is,

the somewhat subtle yet very much there act of clearing ones nasal passage. ..... . that .... muucus sounding...noise... that alot of people seem to unsconsciously do here.... erking yet distinct! the viking men as ultra sensitive brutes. the viking women as straightforward and independent. whatever the temperature outside, such is ruled out by the extreme warmth that exists inside the homes, which, as i have experienced, could not be more true. landing in the country and experiencing a simeltaneous sense of freedom that comes with the vastness, coupled with the immediate sense of it not being in a fully-foreign place; almost like a place you knew previously, or wished you knew, (i especially get this notion is downtown RVK). the pros and cons to knowing so many people in the country, and running into these people, and meeting so many people through one person, and then making the connections between people, who likely, on some level, knows everyone else you know, for some highly comical reason. the extremo liberal stances towards social issues. the dark, strange, and sometimes dry humor. (ha). the excess, oh the excess. im thinking of boozing for some reason? the work hard play harder mentality, which coinsides nicely with the capitalist ideology that reigns supreme here, yet is evened out by the obviousness of social democracy. accordingly, how it is very hard to group people into different classes here purely based on apperances. and, well, most of all, the arts and culture sector, which to say thrives is a huge, blatant understatement. every icelander ive met thus far has something to offer up in terms of their artistic mind; singing, dancing, acting, instrumental ability, and creating in general.

sweeeet.

buddy at the coffee shop i seem to frequent has incorporated me into his great escapist plan to flee the island for canadian education, and hopefully visit NY. i can see how this would be a something of huge importance to an islander, namely, getting the hell off the island at some point.

interesting is:

iceland has the highest rate SOS by children in the world

wahh?
